Alaties Beach (Salty Beach) is a fairly hidden and thus unknown beach, located in northwest of Kefalonia. The intersection for Alaties Beach is located on the main road from Argostoli to Fiskardo, in the settlement of Maganos.

This small beach is surrounded by cliffs, which many people use to dive into the crystal clear waters. Its name comes from the small hollows of the rocks, on which the sea salt has dryed on.

History of the Island

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands along with the island of Ithaka which forms the Prefecture of Kefalonia. It has a population 32.000 inhabitants and its capital town in Argostoli. The mountainous morphology of its terain with the flow of much water creates strange geological phenomena. Beautiful rocky shores and sandy beaches surround the island on all sides. Its mild climate with its sun shining during most of the days of the year, allows the visitor to enjoy the sea and its natural beauties. The Argostoli airport and the seaports of Sami, Agia Efimia and Argostoli, provide the possibility for good communication and development of tourism.

By Air

Kefalonia International Airport is just 8 km from Argostoli and there are daily flights to and from Athens International Airport. The duration of the flight is 45 min.

By Ferry

Kefalonia is connected everyday with mainland Greece by ferry through the ports of Sami, Poros and Fiskardo (from Lefkada and Astakos). Most ferries travel to Killini-Poros (duration 1h and 30min). During summertime there are ferry connections between Zante (from Pessada port) and Lefkada (from Fiskardo). Also, throughout tourist season there are connections to and from Italy via Sami. By Bus

Athens +30 210 515 0785: From Kifissos, Athens there are daily bus connections with Kefalonia. The bus travels either to Patra or Killini and gets on the ferry.
